In the week ending September 5, the number of mortgage applications filed in the U.S. was the lowest it has been since December 2000.
According to the Mortgage Bankers Association, its Market Composite Index showed a decrease of 7.2 percent from the week before. It was also the largest one-week drop since the week ending June 13.
